Bruichladdich Distillery Company Description

Bere Barley is a six-row heritage variety that has long since been forgotten from the modern world of standardised whisky making. Its revival into present day has taken effort and resilience from an entire network of millers, growers and agronomists. Our Bere project is dedicated to those like-minded souls, who have preserved a legacy and found modern applications in flavourful food and drinks, whatever the odds. This Bruichladdich Bere Barley was distilled in 2010 from a 2009 harvest, brought home by Peter, John, Magnus, Sydney and Duncan on the Orkney Islands.

  • Colour: Platinum Blonde
  • Nose: High octane, but breathable. Juicy strawberry, gala apple, and summer nectarine go full frontal at the start of this whisky. It’s unbelievably fruity and quite refreshing. Jasmine and heather linger throughout the dram. Bright citrus zest round out the end.
  • Palate: Fresh apple slice is the first thing I notice before it moves into a slight smokiness. Clove and burnt rubber jam up in the middle like a car wreck briefly with cresol. Citrus zest with faint vanilla peek through just before the finish. When clove and malted grain mix with the dry oak on the finish, it leaves cigarette breath in the aftertaste.
